Use an Adobe Flash file as a screensaver

With Web Screen Saver, you can retrieve a Adobe Flash file from the web and use it as a screensaver.

When this file is updated on the server, Web Screen Saver automatically retrieves the newer version and displays it.

To display a Flash file, the Adobe Flash Player must be installed on the computer and enabled in Internet Explorer.

To ensure that the Adobe Flash Player can be used in Internet Explorer and therefore in Web Screen Saver, browse the following page with Internet Explorer:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

If necessary, go through the installation process so the Flash ActiveX component will be enabled in Internet Explorer.

Use a .SWF file in Web Screen Saver

In Web Screen Saver, open the Configuration dialog and switch to the Pages tab.
Open the Properties dialog box and type the address of a Adobe Flash file stored on a web server or a file server.
For instance:

http://www.vaugouin.com/anime.swf

Set a display time for the Flash file. You should type here a delay in seconds long enough to play the whole presentation.

Click OK to close the Properties dialog box, and OK again to close the Configuration dialog box.

When Web Screen Saver will be launched, the file will be retrieved and displayed.
When the .swf file is updated on the server, the software automatically retrieves the newer version and always displays up-to-date information.

Security issue

Because of the Internet Explorer 7 default security settings, you need also to check the "Create a local copy of this page or file" in the Properties dialog if you are using this web browser.

With IE7, you can also display a .SWF file if it is included on an ordinary HTML page.

With Internet Explorer 6, a .SWF file can be directly displayed inside the web browser with no security restriction.

Display .SWF files from a given directory

You can use Web Screen Saver to display all .swf files from a given directory:
in the Configuration dialog box, select the Pages tab.
Click on the "Insert" button to open the "Properties" dialog box.
In the "Properties" dialog box, type the path of the directory containing Adobe Flash files followed by a "*.swf" file mask.
For instance:

c:\swf\*.swf

If you want to display files stored in sub-directories, check the "Include sub-directories" check box.

Display Flash animations downloaded from a web folder

Web Screen Saver is able to download Flash animations from a web site and display these files.

For instance, if you have an undefined count of .swf files located on a web server, like the following folder:

http://www.vaugouin.com/swf/

You can include the following properties in the page loop of Web Screen Saver:

With these settings, Web Screen Saver will automatically retrieve the list of files stored in the given folder of the web server.

Each file will be downloaded and displayed in the main window of Web Screen Saver.

Because the web folder contains links to .swf files but also links to sort the file list on different fields, it is necessary to exclude these links through the "Exclude" tab:

Also, because the content of the web folder may change and some files can appear or disappear, you need to set a minimum size for a file to be downloaded through the Update tab:

For instance, set a minimum size of 10000 characters minimum to avoid handling of a not found (error 404) error page as a valid .swf file. The value set here should be greater than the actual size of an error page.
