Default options
The default tab allows you to define default options for Web Screen Saver and the scope of the current parameters: current user or all users (local machine). Launch options for Web Screen SaverWeb Screen Saver can be automatically started when a user opens a Windows session. This is an interesting feature if you want to run this software on a dedicated computer. Check the "Launch Web Screen Saver when Windows starts" option to get this behavior. This option creates a new value in the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] or the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Run] registry key. So, the current user should have write access to the registry key. Use the "Set default association for .WSS files" check box to set association between the current program and the .WSS files. Because of this association, Web Screen Saver will be launched if you double-click on a .WSS file in Windows Explorer. Note that this association is also automatically created during the software installation. The current association is displayed under the check box. This check box is grayed out if Web Screen Saver is the default program associated to .WSS files. The "Set this presentation as default file" check box defines which .WSS file is loaded by default when Web Screen Saver is launched. The current default file is displayed under the check box. This check box is grayed out when the current .WSS file (displayed in Configuration dialog title bar) is the default file (the file stated in DefaultFile registry key). The third check box on this tab is "Set Web Screen Saver as current Windows screensaver". If you check this option, Web Screen Saver will replace the current screensaver. Therefore, it will be launched by Windows during the next idle time. The full path of the current Windows screensaver is displayed under this check box. This check box is grayed when Web Screen Saver is already the current Windows screensaver. The fourth check box on this tab is "Set Web Screen Saver as current default Windows screensaver (WinLogon)". If you check this option, Web Screen Saver will be used as a screensaver when no user session is started. This feature is useful do display news or information on a shared computer when no user is currently using this computer. Logon.scr is usually the default screensaver used by Windows, so you will replace it with Web Screen Saver by enabling this option. This option writes to the [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop] registry key. So, the current user should have write access to this registry key. The full path of the current default Windows screensaver is displayed under this check box (for instance, logon.scr). This check box is grayed when Web Screen Saver is already the default Windows screensaver. Parameters scopeFinally, there is the "Define scope for current parameters" option. Two values are available:
